The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is witnessing a robust resurgence in its tourism and hospitality sector, underscored by significant growth in visitor numbers and strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing its global appeal.
Current Performance and Growth
In the first half of 2024, the UAE’s hotel establishments generated revenues exceeding AED 24.6 billion, marking a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The number of hotel guests reached approximately 15.3 million, reflecting a 10.5% growth. Notably, Dubai welcomed 10.62 million overnight visitors from January to July 2024, an 8% rise over the same period in 2023.
Strategic Initiatives and Investments
The UAE Tourism Strategy 2031 aims to elevate the sector’s contribution to the GDP to AED 450 billion, with an annual increase of AED 27 billion. This strategy includes 25 initiatives focused on strengthening the national tourism identity, diversifying tourism products, and increasing investments.
In line with these objectives, Dubai has unveiled plans for the world’s largest beach project, transforming a 45-mile coastline into a high-tech beach featuring bio domes and mangrove reefs. This initiative aims to plant 100 million mangroves, enhancing the local ecosystem and providing educational tourism opportunities.

Projections indicate that the UAE’s tourism sector will continue its upward trajectory, with expectations to reach AED 64.2 billion, accounting for 12% of the GDP in 2024.
